UPDATE: CLOSURE OF UNIVERSITY STREET - NEW DETOUR ROUTE: University Street (State Highway 12) will be closed to all traffic for several days, between State Street and Nevada Avenue, for girder work on the Interstate 25 overpass. The closure begins on Monday, May 10, and continues through Tuesday, May 18.
Per a request from the City of Trinidad, the posted detour route now will be Pine Street, two blocks north

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF UNIVERSITY STREET: University Street (State Highway 12) will be closed to all traffic for several days, between State Street and Nevada Avenue, for girder work on the Interstate 25 overpass. The closure begins on Monday, May 10, and continues through Tuesday, May 18.

I-25 CLOSURE SUNDAY NIGHT: The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be closing southbound Interstate 25 through Trinidad on Sunday night for construction of the adjacent bridge over the Purgatoire River.
Beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, southbound I-25 will be closed at Colorado Avenue (Exit 14B). Traffic will detour west to Colorado Avenue, south on Nevada Avenue to Santa Fe Trail, returning to I-25 at Exit 11. Southbound I-25 will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m. on Monday, March 1. I-25 TRAFFIC SWITCH NEXT WEEK - Construction moves to southbound lanes: The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will switch traffic onto the new northbound lanes of Interstate 25 through Trinidad next week. On Monday, September 14, at 6:30 a.m., CDOT will open northbound I-25 to traffic from Main Street to Goddard Avenue. All southbound traffic will continue to use one lane of the southbound viaduct through Trinidad. This traffic pattern continues until 6:30 p.m. Monday, and also be in place on Tuesday and Wednesday (September 15 & 16) from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night, from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., traffic will detour, as follows:
- NORTHBOUND – exit and back onto I-25 via off-ramps and on-ramps at Main Street (Exit 13) and Commercial Street (Exit 14)
- SOUTHBOUND – exit at Goddard Avenue (Exit 15), east on Kit Carson Trail (U.S. 160), south on Main Street to I-25 At 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, all traffic will move to the northbound viaduct – one lane northbound and one lane southbound – allowing work to begin on southbound I-25, beginning with the
demolition of the old viaduct.

The southbound reconstruction, from Goddard Avenue to Van Buren Street, will be similar to the work on the northbound segment. It includes construction of a new viaduct and mainline bridges over Main Street and
the Purgatoire River, and new entrance and exit ramps at the Main Street and Commercial Street interchanges. It also involves excavation work, asphalt paving, new guardrails, lighting, other utility improvements, landscaping, signing and striping. (Read the Press Release for September 11, 2009)

TRAFFIC ALERT May 29, 2009 - NIGHT TIME CLOSURE OF I-25: The Colorado Department of Transportation will be closing Northbound I-25 between Exit 13B (Main Street off-ramp) and Mile Post 14 (Commercial Street on-ramp) through Trinidad. The closure is to allow Lawrence Construction to place form work supports for the MSE Wall construction between North and Southbound I-25. The closure will be Friday, May 29, 2009 from 12:00 A.M. until 6:00 A.M.
Northbound traffic will be detoured from I-25 to Main Street, right on Main Street to the Kit Carson Trail (SH 160), left on Kit Carson Trail to Exit 15 Northbound I-25 on-ramp. The Commercial Street on-ramp for Northbound I-25 will remain open. (Read the Press Release for May 29, 2009)

NORTHBOUND RAMP TO CLOSE IN TRINIDAD: The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be closing the ramp from westbound Main Street to northbound Interstate 25 in Trinidad at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009. This ramp will remain closed until the new ramp opens in June 2009. All other ramps at Main Street (Exit 13B) will remain open at this time. Detours will be in place to direct the traffic north on Nevada Avenue, east on Colorado Avenue, south on Commercial Street and then onto northbound I-25. During this time, residents are encouraged to use Commercial Street or Goddard Street to access northbound I-25. CDOT thanks you for your patience during construction. SH 12 TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO ONE LANE IN TRINIDAD FEB. 17 & 18 FOR CONSTRUCTION: State Highway 12 will be closed to one lane traffic in Trinidad between State St and Nevada Ave on Tuesday February 17, and Wednesday February 18, 2009. This lane closure will allow Lawrence Construction Company to install concrete deck panels onto the overhead I-25 bridge girders. Detours will be in place from 8:00am until 5:00pm on each day and flaggers will direct traffic through this construction site. We thank you for your patience in helping us with our construction.

INSTALLING PAVERS AND MOVING AMTRAK ENTRANCE: Commercial Street will be temporarily closed starting November 3, 2008 as Lawrence Construction will be installing brick pavers between the railroad tracks and Hadad Street. The street will be
closed to through traffic, but will be opened in phases as the installation continues. Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic around this construction area. The entrance to the AMTRAK depot will be shifted to the Pine Street and Arizona Avenue intersection. Signs will be installed to direct riders to the entrance, through the construction site, and then to the depot parking area. It is anticipated that this work will take approximately six weeks to complete.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF UNIVERSITY AND NEVADA STREETS: Lawrence Construction Company will be temporarily closing University Street (State 12)
on September 3 and 4, 2008 for the installation of overhead bridge girders on I-25. The closure will be between Nevada Street and State Street.
Additionally, Nevada Street will be temporarily closed on September 5 and 8, 2008 between University Street and Pine Street. This closure is also for the installation of overhead bridge girders on I-25.
Local detours will be in place to direct traffic around these construction sites.

COLLEGE STREET TEMPORARY CLOSURE: College Street will be temporarily closed on Wednesday Aug. 6, 2008 between Nevada St. and State St. This closure will allow Lawrence Construction Company to install bridge girders on I-25 above
College Street and over the Railroad tracks. This closure will be in effect until Jan. 2, 2009. Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic around this work site.

TEMPORARY COMMERCIAL STREET CLOSURE: Commercial Street will be closed from Hadad Street to Pine Street beginning Friday, May 30, until Wednesday, June 11, 2008. This closure will allow the contractor to install curb and gutters and to pave the new Commercial Street. The I-25 “on-ramp” at Commercial Street will be closed during this time. Access to the AMTRAK depot will be from Pine Street. Local detours will be in place to direct traffic around this area. We thank you for your patience during these closures and detours.

PINE STREET TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Lawrence Construction Company will be installing a sanitary sewer line in Pine Street next week, closing portions of the street from Tuesday May 6 until Friday May 9, 2008. Pine Street will be closed between Arizona Avenue and Commercial Street. Access to the AMTRAK depot will be available from Commercial Street. Pine Street will be closed to through traffic from Arizona Avenue to Nevada Avenue. Lane widths will be reduced to one lane and left turns will be restricted at Pine Street and Nevada Avenue. Arizona Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Colorado Avenue and Pine Street. All local businesses on these streets will be open for business as usual. UTILITY INSTALLATION, TEMPORARY CLOSURE AT THE COMMERCIAL AND PINE STREET INTERSECTION: Lawrence Construction Company will be installing utilities in Commercial and Pine Streets forcing the temporary closure of that intersection from Monday April 7, 2008 to Friday April 11, 2008. The south bound traffic on Commercial St. will be detoured onto Broom Street or to the north bound I-25 “on ramp”. The north bound traffic on Commercial St. will be detoured onto Pine St. and will not be able to access the north bound I-25 “on ramp”. Local detours will be installed to direct traffic around this intersection. All local businesses will remain open for business as usual.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF INTERSTATE 25 FEBRUARY 28 FROM 9:00AM TO 4:00PM: On February 28, 2008 Lawrence Construction Company will be closing both directions of I-25 between Main Street and Kit Carson Trail (US 160) for electrical work and bridge deck repairs. Southbound traffic will be detoured off I-25 (at Exit 15) onto Kit Carson Trail (US 160 East), through downtown on Main Street and re-enter the highway at Main Street ramp (Exit 13B). Northbound traffic will be detoured off I-25 at Main Street (Exit 13B) through downtown on Main Street, west on Kit Carson Trail (US 160) and re-enter the highway at the Kit Carson Trail ramp (Exit 15). Detour signage will be in place.
This work related closure is weather permitting. In the event of bad weather conditions this work will be rescheduled.

DETOURS AT MAIN STREET AND COMMERCIAL STREET STARTING MONDAY: Lawrence Construction Company will be installing bridge girders on I-25 near Commercial Street. Commercial Street will be closed between the BNSF railroad tracks and Broom Street. The on-ramp from Commercial Street to northbound I-25 will also be closed during this installation. This closure will occur Monday February 18, 2008 between 6:30 am and 2:00 pm. Detour signage will be in place.
Additionally, Lawrence Construction will be setting girders at the Main Street Bridge on Thursday
February 21, 2008 from approximately 6:30 am to 4:00 pm. During this time southbound and northbound exit ramps (13B) from I-25 to Main Street will be closed. The on-ramp from Main Street to northbound I-25 will remain open but drivers may experience brief 15-minute delays. Local traffic will be detoured around this intersection. Signage will be in place well in advance of the detours. Northbound I-25 traffic will exit on Santa Fe (Exit 11) and on Van Buren (Exit 13A). Southbound I-25 traffic will exit on Colorado Avenue (Exit 14B).

TRAFFIC DETOURS NEXT WEEK: Lawrence Construction Company will begin installing storm sewer and electrical lines. This construction will cause the temporary closure of College Street between Nevada Avenue and State Street. Cedar Street will be closed between Nevada Avenue and Modica Street. Detour signage will be installed to direct traffic around this intersection. Traffic on Nevada Avenue should not be disrupted. These detours are expected to be in effect from Monday February 11, 2008 until Friday, February 15, 2008.

The BNSF Railroad will be working on the Railroad Crossing tracks and approaches at University Street. University Street will be closed between Nevada Avenue and State Street, Monday October 1, through Friday October 5.

DEMOLITION IS COMPLETE: Demolition of all bridges and buildings is complete for this phase of the reconstruction project. Work continues on the Commercial Street sewer line with Commercial Street being closed between Pine Street and the I-25 northbound on ramp. The ramp is not accessible from the downtown area, but is expected to remain open for traffic traveling southward down Commercial Street from the five points intersection of Arizona, Commercial and Colorado Streets. Intermittent closure of the northbound on ramp will occur as sewer line work progresses. Minor traffic delays are expected at Main Street and the Interstate ramps to allow for trucks to enter and exit the work area Construction continues on the viaduct bridge piers and the Main Street bridge landscape walls.

INSTALLING SANITARY SEWER LINES: Lawrence Construction Company will be installing new sanitary sewer lines from Monday, September 10 through Monday, September 17. During this time, Commercial Street will be closed from Pine Street to the railroad tracks. Throughout the remainder of September, utility lines will be replaced along Pine Street between Arizona Street and Commercial Street, along Commercial Street between Hadad Drive and the railroad tracks and along Hadad Drive east of Commercial Street. Earlier this week Nevada Avenue between Pine Street and College Street was closed and by this weekend College Street between State Street and Nevada Avenue will be closed. During these closures, traffic will be detoured onto adjacent streets between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and should only be in effect for one day. Intersection closures will be announced as the schedule becomes available.

CLOSURES: The Colorado Department of Transportation will be temporarily closing Nevada Avenue between Pine Street and College Street in Trinidad on Wednesday August 1, 2007. This closure is for your safety as the northbound I-25 viaduct is being demolished overhead. Traffic will be detoured onto adjacent streets from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and should be for one day only. It is anticipated that demolition work will continue to the south and College Street will be closed on Friday August 3, 2007. Once again traffic will be detoured to adjacent side streets from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm for one day only. This work is being done to prepare for the new alignment of northbound I-25 through Trinidad. This construction project should be completed by the summer of 2009.

DEMOLITION CONTINUES TO UNIVERSITY: As you’ve noticed, the concrete is falling. Bit by bit and piece-by-piece the viaduct is being demolished. Early next week Lawrence Construction expects to begin demolition work on the northbound I-25 viaduct above the railroad tracks and University Street (State Highway 12). This work is expected to last three days. During this time, traffic will be detoured north on State Street, east on College Street then south on Nevada. Demolition work is expected to continue into August. Various intersections will be closed for safety as demolition work progresses overhead, intersection closures will be announced as the schedule becomes available.

This work is expected to continue through the remainder of July and into August. Various intersections will be closed for safety as demolition work progresses overhead, intersection closures will be announced as the schedule becomes available. Each intersection is expected to be closed for approximately three days as the bridge and girders are removed. During this time traffic will be detoured to adjacent streets.

STORM DRAIN INSTALLATION: In the coming week, Lawrence Construction Company will be installing a storm drain adjacent to the interstate on Main Street, and across the northbound on-ramp at Main Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by flaggers. Construction will continue on the retaining walls for the Commercial Street northbound on-ramp and the Main Street ramps.

COLUMNS, RETAINING WALLS AND STORM DRAINS: Lawrence Construction Company is continuing to install footings, and columns for the new northbound alignment of I-25 near Commercial Street. In addition, they will begin the construction of retaining walls near the Main Street bridge adjacent to the Commercial Street on-ramp and storm drains will be installed under the Main Street on-ramp. Traffic will be limited to one lane, flagging crews will be on-hand to direct traffic flow.

BUILDING COLUMNS: Lawrence Construction Company will be constructing bridge abutments for the new northbound I-25 bridge over Main Street. Once the abutments are complete, construction will begin for the landscaped retaining walls. The contractor will also be starting to construct pier footings for the new northbound I-25 viaduct between the Pizza Hut building and Commercial Street. There may be minor traffic delays but no street closures are expected.

BUILDING THE INFRASTRUCTURE: For the next few weeks, construction crews will continue to build embankments, retaining walls and storm drains. This activity should not cause any new closures to exits or ramps. Repair work will continue on the south bound I-25 viaduct causing periodic lane closures.

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS: Demolition of the north bound I-25 bridge over Main Street is complete and this week the contractor started to construct the new bridge. They will also be constructing the new alignment of I-25 between Van Buren and Main Street. This work will continue through the summer. Repair work will continue on the south bound I-25 viaduct causing periodic lane closures.

DEMOLITION AND DISMANTLING: The long awaited demolition begins. What some might have hoped would be a dramatic Hollywood style explosion, in reality will be a controlled and tedious process of breaking off small pieces of the deteriorating bridge and hauling away the debris. The reusable materials will be sent to reclamation facilities for recycling. At this time, the demolition is only for the northbound interstate bridge over Main Street. The southbound on-ramp traffic from Main Street will be detoured on to the Santa Fe Trail. The other bridges will be demolished later this summer. This week, the construction of retaining walls and storm drains continued near Main Street and Commercial Street. The one lane configuration on I-25 will remain in effect for the duration of the project.

DEMOLITION RESCHEDULED: The demolition of the Main Street bridge scheduled for earlier this week has been delayed due to weather conditions, it is being rescheduled for next week. When demolition begins, the southbound on-ramp from Main Street will be temporarily closed while the bridge deck and girders are being dismantled. Also next week, the construction of retaining walls and storm drains will continue near Main Street and Commercial Street. The one lane configuration on I-25 will remain in effect for the duration of the project.

DEMOLITION: Demolition of the I-25 bridge over Main Street will begin Monday and Tuesday of next week. The southbound ramp will be closed, all other ramps will remain open. All ramps should reopen on Wednesday April 25. Weather caused a one day delay for the planned shift of the northbound traffic to the left lane of southbound lanes. Both the northbound and southbound directions will have only one lane of traffic available. This lane configuration will be in place until summer of 2009 as the Main Street bridge, the Purgatoire River bridge, and the I-25 Viaduct will be under construction.

MEDIAN WORK: This week CDOT will be restricting the southbound lanes to the right lane for continued median work and concrete barrier placement. On April 16 northbound traffic will be detoured to the left lane of the southbound lanes. Both the northbound and southbound directions will have only one lane of traffic available. This lane configuration will allow for the reconstruction of the I-25 bridges over Main Street and over the Purgatoire River and will remain in effect until September 2007.

LANE CLOSURES: In the first part of April look for the Contractor to modify I-25 laneage. During the week of April 2 the southbound I-25 inside lane will be closed from the Purgatoire River to just south of Main Street. On April 16 northbound traffic will be detoured onto the closed southbound lane. Two-way traffic will continue on the existing southbound lanes through September 2007. This traffic detour will accommodate the reconstruction of the northbound Main Street and Purgatoire River bridges.
